Oh So Much Better

The G Lucifer is a fine suit any way you slice it but Sukesuke 72 has applied a custom paint job and taken that to an entirely different level. I'm really hoping we start seeing Master Grade kits from Reconguista in G soon, there are some awesome designs in that series.

Hop on over to Master File and take in the full gallery at your leisure.

Bare-chested Bad@ssery

Now here's something you don't see everyday, the Gundam Maxter in model kit form. Anyone putting together a kit this obscure must have a love of the source material and predictably this kit rocks. G-Gundam is the second Gundam anime I ever watched (right after Gundam Wing, my all time favorite) and while the show is notorious for it's creative laziness and cultural ignorance it holds a special place in my heart. To that end I'd really like to see a little more love shown to the less offensive mobile suits regardless of line. Anyways that's enough banter outta me, I'll leave you to the pretty now and for those of you who'd like a bit more info on G-Gundam's nonsense check the YouTube video after the break.

It's Like Vampire Hunter D the Mecha!

It's not often that I get excited about High Grade kits the upcoming Gundam The End certainly has my attention. While it may be professional modeler magic, the detail on this 1/144 scale kit is absolutely delightful. I do have questions about pose-ability and structural integrity that can't really be answered by promotional images. Unless something changes for the worse I very much expect to pick this kit up when it releases in May of this year. What's your opinion intrepid web surfers, any of you plan on picking this up?

Caw Caw!!!

I realize that while I regularly profess my love for the Master Grade line, I very rarely show love to the HG line beloved as it is by many a modeler. I'd apologize but I don't wanna. Instead I'll simply treat you to a super sexy custom Gundam Fenice Rinascita dubbed "Apollo" by it's creator, modeler Nerav.

Tis a Lady!

In the sea of Sazabis, Sinanjus, Unicorns and Quant[T]s the Nobell Gundam is amongst the rarest sights indeed, but it appears at least one modeler is angling to change that.

Modeller Riru has done some wonderful things with this HG kit. While the angel wings of Wing Gundam are often misplaced on other kits, they are a good fit for this kit, mostly due to the natural angles of the Nobell. The soft pink simultaneous plays up the both the femininity of the kit and lends it an angelic presence, while the hints of red remind us that this is indeed a dangerous piece of machinery. One complaint I do have is with the legs or rather the armor parts attached to the knees. The addition of these pieces detract from the slender elegance of the Nobell and adds an unwanted bulkiness to the kit. That said I still love what was done here and praise the efforts of Riru. If any of you intrepid blog readers have a lady Gunpla to flaunt we welcome your submission on GunplAfrica.

Guntank Reborn

Ah Guntank, you lovable, impractical weapon of war. You've always been more cute than menacing but with the arrival of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin you've finally been given a design worthy of a giant tank with cannons everywhere.

While the Guntank from the original series looked like something that would stop short of crushing a lilly on it's way back from the fridge with your cool glass of lemonade, the rebooted tank looks as though it'd crush everything at a monster truck rally including the stadium. Initially I took notice of the redesign whilst reading volume one of the Origin manga, but it wasn't until images of the model kit started circulating that I was truly drawn in.

Look at that thing there, even awash in shades of grey it looks awesome. So awesome in fact that I mistook it for a MG - it's an HG - but I know what you're thinking. You're thinking it's just a handy bit of professional modeling by Bandai and you're probably right, even still the resin prototype is also plastic awesome!

Despite my preference for Master Grade's I fully expect to have this kit in my possession as soon as possible, I like the redesign that much, plus I expect it'll be pretty cheap as well. Hopefully this better version of the Guntank will get a MG release, in which case I'll probably be compelled to also purchase the original Guntank for a side-by-side. Enough from me what say you readers, what do you think of the Guntank Early Type (Tentative Name)?

HG Transient Gundam

First images of the Gundam Transient, from Gundam Build Fighters Try,  in plastic model form. I loved the look of this suit in the anime but the model kit gets a definite, "meh" from this blogger. Perhaps it the dullness of contrasts that inspire my indifference, that does seem tot be the primary difference between the illustration and the model? What say you dear readers, are you moved to cheers, jeers or meh's?

Cautiously Optimistic

I'm really impressed by the design of the Gaeon and although I'm looking forward to its HG release, I still have my reservations.

Purdy right?! Here's the rub despite my excitement over the awesome spectacle of beam saber spider limbs, there remain concerns about the sturdiness of those arms. I don't have a lot of confidence this suit will be able to support those arms in any suspended poses. There's also the question of how back heavy this kit is going to be, that's a lot of plastic built into that backpack. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out when this kit releases in February 2015?  Until then Gundam Guy and Master File have plenty of images to tide you (and me) over.

Painted Build - HG 1/144 Wing Zero

How superb is the paint job? Paint is a wondrous thing - as is sanding - minus the disclaimer I would've thought this little fella was a MG.

A box cometh!

I got a package today, rather a box and this box was chocked full of mobile suits and dirt.

First up are two HG kits, the Hi-Mock (which will probably be built by one of my sons) and the Space Jahannam (which will probably be on standby indefinitely).

Next up are two 1/100 scale kits, the RE/100 Gundam Mk-III, which I'm eager to build and the MG Hi-Zack.

Following those two are the rarest of all parcels, sealed Gunpla! Might be hard to see but hiding beneath that shrink wrapping are MG Exia and Deathsythe, the latter absolutely has to be painted.

Finally, a kit I feel I've been waiting an eternity for has finally arrived... The MG Sinaju Stein ver. Ka.

And that concludes the very first installment of "A Box Cometh!" Got your own box full of Gunpla joy you like to share? Well shoot us an email and we'll give your box it's moment in the sun!

Till next time.
